CORYDON, Ind. (AP) -- A former southern Indiana juvenile prosecutor has pleaded innocent to welfare fraud charges alleging he claimed unemployment benefits while working part-time.
Thirty-four-year-old Shawn Donahue entered his not guilty plea Monday during a hearing in Corydon with his mother at his side. A Harrison County judge set Donahue's pre-trial hearing for April 29.
His attorney, Bart Betteau, predicted that Donahue would be cleared of any wrongdoing.
Donahue had worked as a deputy prosecutor to former Harrison County Prosecutor Dennis Byrd until he and other employees were terminated on Dec. 31, 2010.
Donahue allegedly failed to report about $7,700 in earnings he received from three entities for legal services while obtaining at least $5,000 of jobless benefits during the first eight months of 2011.
