(ABC News) -- A teenage couple suspected of gunning down a police officer before taking their own lives left behind suicide notes, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Brandon Goode, 18, and Alexandria Hollinghurst, 17, “died of what is believed to be gunshot wounds from apparent suicide,” authorities said, though adding that an official cause of death would be issued after the medical examiner’s report.

Authorities declined to reveal the contents of final notes believed to have been left by the couple, who were found dead in Windermere, Fla., Saturday, shortly after Officer Robert German, 31, was fatally wounded.

German apparently made a “subject stop” of a man and a woman walking through a neighborhood around 4 a.m. Saturday and called for backup.

When the first Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived, officials said, German was lying in the roadway. Authorities reported hearing shots in the area at that time, but stopped short of saying whether they believed the sounds they heard could have been the teens taking their own lives.

A tactical rescue was conducted to rescue German, meaning a patrol car was used to shield him as he was placed in another vehicle and taken to the hospital.

A short time later, authorities said they located the bodies of Goode and Hollinghurst under some brush on the side of the road.

Authorities have not commented on a possible motive.

A funeral for German, a five-year veteran of the department, is scheduled for Thursday.
