LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A major announcement from Mayor Greg Fischer Wednesday about how to best develop Louisville business and build the city's economy.

The announcement means big changes for Greater Louisville Inc. as the city will now take over all of the main functions of GLI.

Fischer announced the plan to change how the city approaches economic development by creating Louisville Forward.

The new initiative will takeover business attraction and development expansion for GLI. Fischer said this new approach will help streamline service to present and future businesses.

Contractually, the city will still have a relationship with GLI.

Formed 11 years ago when the city and county were separate, GLI gave business development one voice. That's something Fischer said the city can do on its own now.
