LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer tells WHAS11 that a proposal to let local governments create a local option sales tax of one percent is dead in the Kentucky legislature.

Fischer conceded to defeat saying he couldn’t secure the necessary 60 votes for a constitutional amendment.

He adds that lawmakers can bring the proposal up next year.

Mayor Fischer lobbied hard for the bill saying it was the best way for Kentucky’s local governments to pay for their own projects without asking the state for money.
