LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – On Thursday night hundreds of U of L students walked across the stage at the KFC Yum Center; the first to graduate in the new arena.

One of those students is a young man WHAS11 has followed since he was a baby; our own Crusade kid, Patrick Henry Hughes.

Since birth, Patrick Henry Hughes has beaten the odds; born without eyes and unable to use his legs. Patrick and his parents have refused to let any of that stand in his way.

On the verge of celebrating his latest accomplishment, a college degree, he reflected on his journey.

Patrick and Patty Hughes say Patrick Henry's graduation is a testament to their son’s spirit, and his determination to succeed no matter what obstacle stood in the way.

As Patrick finally accepts his diploma, the emotions from his loved ones flow.

One of the newest U of L Spanish majors, who doesn't need to see his parents pride, a simple fist pound will do.

His past an inspiration to others, his future still yet to be written.
