LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A firefighter was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after battling a house fire in Louisville's California neighborhood.

Firefighters were called to a two-story house in the 1800 block of West Oak Street around 4 p.m. Sunday.

"There was a large volume of fire coming from the first floor windows, and extended to the second floor, and it was impending on the house next door," said Maj. Terrence Delaney of the Louisville Metro Fire Department.

The fire chief says one of his firefighters was treated for minor burns to his face.

A resident says seven people live inside the home, but no one was there when the fire started.

The fire was under control about 20 minutes after it started. Major Delaney says there is significant fire damage to the front of the home and a lot of smoke and water damage to the back of the house.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
