HARDINSBURG, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Firefighters spent nearly five hours Saturday battling a fire that destroyed several units of an apartment complex.
Firefighters responded to the fire at Breck Manor Apartments around 2 p.m. ET Saturday in the 100 block of Fairgrounds Road in Hardinsburg, Kentucky.
According to the Hardinsburg Fire Chief, the fire started in a second floor apartment. Three units were damaged by fire and three other units were damaged by water and smoke.
Two people were taken to the hospital to get oxygen, but no one was hurt.
All 12 units of the building were evacuated, and the Red Cross is helping 12 families with overnight accommodations.
According to the manager of the pharmacy located near the scene, all residents, who were mostly elderly, were able to escape the fire. The pharmacy is helping to supply a five day supply of medicine for those who were displaced.
Firefighters stayed on the scene to watch for hotspots and to salvage personal belongings. The scene cleared by 7 p.m. ET.
Firefighters will continue their investigation on Monday.
