LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)—One of Louisville’s historic mansions is going to become a bigger focal point for the city’s rich history.
The Filson Historical Society needs more room to store the history of the Derby City and broke ground on upgrades on the building on Thursday.
Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer was present and spoke to the crowd about the nearly $12 million expansion of the society’s campus on South Third Street.
Most of the money for the expansion came from the family of the late Owsley Brown II.
The project consist of renovations of the 1905 Ferguson Mansion which has housed the Filson since 1986 and a park like setting and new exhibit space.
