LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A well-known Louisville attorney is the father of one of the victims found dead inside a Highlands home on Monday. Richard Beliles never imagined getting a phone call about the death of his son.
“The first words he said was, ‘I’m sorry.’ I knew what that mean. I just dropped the phone and could not talk,” Beliles said.
Joseph Beliles, 43, was found dead along with his mother Beatrice Burchel inside her Highlands home located in the 1000 block of Baxter Avenue.
Beliles was in Virginia at the time where he was supposed to meet Joseph for a vacation. Beliles knew something was wrong when Joseph didn’t arrive or didn’t return any phone calls after three days. Beliles said it wasn’t a normal characteristic for his son.
Beliles told Joseph’s friend to stop by the house to check on him. That’s when it was discovered both Joseph and Beatrice were deceased.
“I got more [information] from the friend about the way they had found him. Joe was on his computer when he died sitting up at his computer,” Beliles said.
Police said there’s no evidence of foul play involved in the death investigation but an autopsy will be conducted by the Jefferson County’s Coroner’s office to determine the cause of death.
