LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Louisville dad landed himself behind bars Sunday after a shopping trip at Wal-Mart.

According to the arrest report, police were called to the Wal-Mart on Dainn Marie Road by witnesses who said they saw a father mistreating his son.

Police said 33-year-old Gary Cooper was exiting the store with his 6-year-old son with autism seated in  cart "violently pushed the shopping cart," and let go, causing it to crash into a concrete pole. The report states the cart crashed in the breeze way of the exit.

When officers arrived at the store, they said the boy was bleeding from the mouth and complained of ankle pain.

Officers did contacted Wal-Mart loss prevention officers and obtained a copy of surveillance video of the incident.

Copper is charged with 4th degree assault.
