LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Police are searching for a gunman who shot Andre Ballard, 43, near 11th and Chestnut Street on Sunday night.

Family members tell WHAS11 Ballard was leaving work at the Indi’s at 10th and Broadway and was trying to catch a bus.

Police say that’s when someone approached him and shot him in the abdomen then took his wallet and cell phone. Ballard was able to make it back to Indi’s for help, but collapsed.

“For somebody to kill my cousin when he's just minding his own business, working hard, trying to take care of his family, that is not right,” said Annice Graves, Ballard’s cousin.

Ballard was taken to University Hospital, but his family says he may not survive. He worked at Indi’s for eight years and was the father of seven children.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call police at 574-LMPD.
