LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- For the first time since the brutal murder of a Fairdale mother and daughter, the family is speaking out. Wednesday marks a year since Sylvia Habich and her daughter, Rita Carrico, were stabbed to death.
Last year on June 30, Carrico was at her mother's Fairdale home getting ready to take her to the doctor. Police say this is when someone went in and stabbed both women. Carrico's brother later found them both dead in the house.
Habich's husband passed away five years before the murders, but was a retired Louisville police officer. However, the family doesn't think that played any part in the crime.
Police the case is still an open investigation and they are looking for any tips that could help break this case. If you have any information, please call (502) 574-LMPD.
