(ABC News) -- Dole Fresh Vegetables is recalling bags of salad that may be contaminated with listeria, according to a company statement.

The voluntary recall was issued yesterday after a sample of Dole Italian Salad tested positive for the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause miscarriages or stillbirth in pregnant women.

"No illnesses have been reported in association with the recall," Dole said in a statement, adding that the company is "coordinating closely with regulatory officials."

The recall covers bags of Italian Blend, Fresh Selections Italian Style Blend, Little Salad Bar Italian Salad and Marketside Italian Style Salad with the use-by date of March 12.

The salads were distributed in 15 states, including Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.

Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions, according to the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Pregnant woman and people with weakened immune systems are most vulnerable to the infection.
