(WHAS11) - A local animal organization says a young black lab was used as target practice.

Aiden was found wandering down a road in Pike County, Kentucky.

He's now being cared for by the Shamrock Pet Foundation in Louisville.

Officials say he was shot close-range and the arrow went all the way through him.

The organization is helping nurse him back to health but say he'll eventually need a good home.

They say they've seen a lot of animal abuse cases lately but aren't sure exactly why.

“This is not the worst situation we've had. We've seen animals whose throats have been slit. We've seen kittens drowned by children. Every month we have board meetings and that's the hardest part is hearing the animal cruelty,” says Mary Casey of the Shamrock Pet Foundation.

The Shamrock Pet Foundation has set up a fund to help this dog and others that have been abused.
