(WHAS 11)--Dick's Sporting Goods and other major retailers are taking matters into their own hands after the deadly school shooting in Connecticut.
The word is Dick's and Walmart are pulling semi-automatic rifles from store shelves. We have also learned Dick's has removed all guns from its stores near Newtown, Conn. where the mass shooting took the lives of 20 young children and six adults.
Under the 'Modern Sporting' link, on Dick's website, a blank page appears. According to CNN, it's unclear how long Dicks will suspend the sale of some their guns.
'The Nation' is reporting that Walmart has also pulled the Bushmaster AR15 rifle from its shelves. The same type of rifle found on Adam Lanza, the alleged Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter.
The shooting has sparked great debate about gun control reform in the United States, but since the massacre in Connecticut, the NRA has remained publicly silent.
We went to the organizations Facebook page, but that has been taken down.
