NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WHAS11) – Chief Sherri Knight’s request for reassignment came just weeks after a New Albany Police Officer came forward with allegations of wrongdoing in the department.
Laura Landenwhich, an attorney for the unidentified officer spoke later Tuesday afternoon about the chief’s announcement.
“We are both pleased that chief knight has decided to resign. We hope this begins a new era of accountability within the department we also hope that for my client that it means the end of a retaliatory period where her complaints about another officer and their illegal activities were gone – not only unnoticed and unaddressed but she also became a victim of those retaliations as a result of making those allegations known to the chief,” she said.
Those allegations included officers reporting time for payment that they did not work and working side jobs while on duty.
