LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- Holes in the floors, raccoons in the ceilings, exposed wires and growing mold are some of the problems that residents at Iroquois Heights apartments are dealing with, and they say they are fed up.
“I can’t live like this and I’m not going to live like this,” said Hazel Smith, a resident who suffered a concussion following a ceiling cave in while she was taking a bath.
She said the gaping hole left in the ceiling allowed a raccoon to find its way into her apartment and scamper through her living room.
She said the entire complex is infested with raccoons.
“I’m the one who has to sit here and wonder ‘if I put my kid in the tub is a raccoon going to fall in it or is this part of the ceiling going to fall down,’” Smith said.
Other residents also had complaints, but chose anonymity because they feared retaliation.
“We’ve got black mold in our bathroom and in the living room we’ve got black mold coming out of the vents,” said one of those anonymous residents.
Smith and the other residents said they have contacted the health department and property manager, but no action has been taken. WHAS is also waiting for calls to be returned.
