(WHAS11) -- Emergency crews were called to the scene of a school bus accident on Brownsboro Road Monday afternoon.
According to MetroSafe Dispatch, a car and a school bus driving students from Chenoweth Elementary School, with 15 students on board, collided around 4:00 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Brownsboro Road and Drescher Bridge Avenue.
“I heard the squeal, and I heard the impact and it sounded like an explosion,” said resident Kim Schlenk.
Dispatch initially said there were no injuries on the bus, but WHAS11 has learned three students were taken to Kosair Children's Hospital and a person in a white car that was involved in the accident was also injured.
The student's injuries are believed to be minor, but we've learned the adult in the car has life threatening injuries.
“She was traveling westbound and the school bus turned in front of her,” said Capt Salvador Melendez, Metro Fire and Rescue spokesperson.
The woman’s husband came to the scene, but his wife had already been taken to University Hospital.
“He was very shaken which is understandable,” Melendezsaid.
Some students who were not injured will be loaded onto another bus to be taken home.
This was the first day back in session for Jefferson County Public Schools following their winter break. This is JCPS bus number 0424.
