CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A family-owned tire store in Campbellsville is a total loss this morning after fire crews battled a major blaze for several hours Saturday morning.

Owner, Tony Knifley, was inside when the blaze started. He said he had just heat on in the building before the fire erupted. “ I could see a glow through the door, and I looked up and I said ‘What in the world is happening?’ and I went through the back and the bulbs were popping and the whole ceiling was on fire.”

According to Ronnie Dooley, spokesperson for Campbellsville Fire and Rescue, dispatchers received a call of a working fire at Taylor County Tire Sales at 6:25 a.m. Saturday. When fire crews responded, the fire was heavily involved. Five fire crews assisted, including Taylor County, Adair County, Marion County, Green County and Somersville, and were able to contain the fire from spreading to nearby businesses.

Crews were forced to cut off electricity to surrounding business because the flames were inches from the power lines. Knifley says this loss is devastating for his family. “I’ve been coming down here since I was 12 year-old. This is the only business…the only job I’ve ever had. I’ve never filled out an application for a job. This is it right here. It kind of hurts.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

South Columbia Avenue from Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. to Main Street was closed for most of the day.

Taylor County Tire Sales is a family-owned business since 1963. The building is considered a total loss. The family does have insurance and says they will rebuild.

No injuries were reported.
