LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – As communities around the county reflect on the 40th anniversary of the 1974 super tornado outbreak, leaders are remembering the church groups and other organizations who stepped up to help amid the devastation.

Former Louisville Mayor Dr. Harvey Sloane joined Crescent Hill residents to recognize United Crescent Hill Ministries – a group of 21 churches who made a difference in tornado victims’ lives and continues to help people in need today.

During Sunday’s celebration of community service, a proclamation from current Mayor Greg Fischer declared the day as United Crescent Hill Ministries Day.
