Poll:
Do you agree with the decision to make instant racing at Churchill Downs legal?
Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - WHAS11 News has learned that instant racing has been approved here in Kentucky.
That decision came down from a judge in Frankfort Wednesday afternoon.
Instant racing allows gamblers to place bets on old horse races, on a video slot-type machine.
Tracks like Churchill Downs were pushing for approval to help generate larger purses.
Opponents say it is too close to video gambling.
Lawmakers will still have to approve the practice when the legislative session begins in January.

STATEMENT BY GOV. STEVE BESHEAR:
“We are very pleased with the court’s decision. We feel strongly that the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission has the statutory authority to regulate historical horse racing, and we expect revenue produced from these games will help support our trademark racing industry.”
