LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville Metro Councilwoman Attica Scott is calling for a special public committee hearing after the fatal shooting of an 18-month-old in Louisville Wednesday night.

Ne’riah Serenity Miller was killed near 37th and Market while on the porch with her mother who was also shot.  The mother is expected to survive.

Councilwoman Scott said Thursday, “now is the time for us to hold another public safety committee hearing to say in a month’s time we've had a grandmother shot on Broadway, in broad daylight, getting off a TARC bus and we've had an 18-month-old shot and killed and her mother shot.  We need a special hearing to find out what we are truly doing in this community to address public health and public safety.”

Councilwoman Scott went on to say, “that means we need a special hearing just like we did for the Waterfront and the Big Four Bridge.  This is just as important.”

After reports of teen violence downtown in March the city opened a new police substation and added extra patrols at the foot of the Big Four Bridge.  The city also installed cameras along the waterfront.
