ENGLISH, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Family members are torn apart after five of their loved ones died in an early morning mobile home fire in Crawford County, Ind.

It happened on a small country road in English, just off Interstate 64.

A tragic fire claimed the lives of two brothers, a woman and two children. Their play toys were among the ruins next to a mobile home in a small town.
Crawford County Sheriff, Tim Wilkerson, said it was heartbreaking to notify the family.

"This is by far the worst tragedy that I've experienced in 16 years of law enforcement," he said.

Wilkerson said the two half-brothers were inside the mobile home with a girlfriend and two children when flames broke out around 12:30 Thursday morning in the 1300 block of Denton Road. One of the men was a father of the 8-year-old girl and the woman was mother to the 3-year-old boy - all perished in the fire.
A grandfather in a nearby home tried to help with no luck.

"By the time he ran down there it was fully engulfed and tragedy unfolded after that," Wilkerson said.

The home is located in a rural area on a remote hilltop with no fire hydrants - firefighters forced to bring water in by tankers. The Fire Marshal said he believes the preliminary cause was a wood burning stove and there's no confirmation on whether there was a working fire alarm.

"Statistics say a mobile home will burn in seven minutes," Wilkerson said.

Family members did not want to talk at this time as the Fire Marshal continues his investigation.
