LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Beach season may be drawing to a close, but fall offers plenty of opportunities to hit the road or take to the skies without the crowds and without the peak price tags.

According to TripAdvisor, top fall destinations include New York, Boston, Orlando, Las Vegas and San Francsico.

Drivers got relief during the long holiday weekend with the cheapest labor day weekend gas prices since 2010, according to GasBuddy.com, and prices should drop even lower in late September when gas stations stop selling the more expensive summer blends at the pumps.

GasBuddy.com expects the national average to bottom out between $3.15 and $3.25 per gallon later this year, and that average is bumped higher by higher prices on the west coast. Those east of the Rockies could even see prices dip below $3 per gallon.

In the sky, fall is a shoulder season, at least until airlines get close to the Thanksgiving rush, so it's never too early to eye those holiday fares.

Even if you think it seems too early, it’s not; those seats really do fill up fast.
