(WHAS11)-It’s a big to do about a hole in the ground…a big hole.
And David Mitchell says it’s been around since the August flood in 2009.
“If I was in charge of the agency involved in this I would be humiliated,” says Mitchell.
But it’s finding the agency involved that has posed the biggest challenge.
Mitchell says he has made over two dozen phone calls to the transportation cabinet, Metro Call, the Mayor’s office, Public Works, the Water Company, and MSD.
Mitchell says, “Everybody says they’re going to get out and look at it and apparently all they’ve done is looking at it because it’s still here.”
When we started asking questions we discovered the hole and Crittendon Drive that runs next to it is owned by the state of Kentucky. However, the city of Louisville is under contract to maintain it and that’s where the repair slipped through the cracks.
MSD put up caution tape and cones and ran tests to determine if the collapse was tied to a sewer line. When they determined it was not the responsibility to fix it fell on Public Works. The Mayor’s office says Public Works wasn’t informed, so the hole sat, and sat, and sat.
“There’s nothing under this section of road to hold up the road. It’s just a matter of time before a big vehicle goes over here and the road falls in,” says Mitchell.
We first met Mitchell on Friday morning to view the hole. By that night, Mitchell says the Louisville Public Works Department was out filling the hole, eight months after the problem surfaced.
With the problem resolved, Mitchell says he’ll now turn his attention to another hole near his mother’s home on Preston Highway.
