FORT KNOX, Ky. (WHAS11) – Thousands of jobs could be on the chopping block at Fort Knox.
The Hardin County Chamber of Commerce wants the community to fight the cuts.
In an effort to move from war to peacetime military staffing, the Army plans to cut tens of thousands of jobs by 2020.
One option would eliminate 4100 positions from Fort Knox alone on top of the 3500 cut earlier this year when the brigade combat team was disbanded.
The Hardin County Chamber of Commerce says when those jobs go they’ll take workers and families with them hurting the local economy.
They’re urging residents to write Army officials and ask them not to cut jobs.
