LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- While in Louisville for the urban garden project, Ag. Commissioner James Comer spoke to WHAS11 about a possible run for the governor's mansion.

Comer said that he would announce his decision soon and added that he has spoken with several potential running mates.

"I will say this," Comer said. "We have met with several potential lt governor candidates. Every one we met with wanted to run on a ticket so I'm confident that should I decide to run, when we announce who our running mate will be that people of Kentucky will be very satisfied with that person. They will be the kind of person that they can vote for for governor."

He said  leaders across Kentucky are asking him to get into the race, but he still has a few loose ends to be tied

"There's a demand for strong leadership in Frankfort and I'm very humbled by the outpouring of support we get all across Kentucky even here in Louisville," he said.

The only Republican on the ticket is Hal Heiner, former Louisville mayoral candidate. Jack Conway, the current Attorney General, is the only Democrat that has announced his candidacy, but several others are expected to announce their bid for governor.
