(WHAS11) -- The owner of a pit bull is facing charges after police say the dog mauled a 19-month-old boy in Colorado Sunday.
Witnesses say the go was tethered to a pole and attacked the boy when he approached the dog to pet it.
The child was among a group of people traveling together in motor homes.
The child is currently in the hospital with serious injuries.
Police say the dog was restrained using catch poles. It died of asphyxiation after being taken to an animal shelter.
The owner, a 51-year-old woman was arrested and charged with unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog.
