(WHAS11) -- Gates are now open for the 27th Breeders' Cup with some of the best horses from around the world.

It'll be a cold start to a hot race in just a couple hours.
It's the richest event in sports with a multi-million dollar purse.

The Breeders' Cup kicks off with the first race at 2 p.m. Friday.
But you'll be kicking yourself if you don't dress for cold weather, like Dee Goodman.
Dee Goodman, a race fan, said, "I have one, two, three, four layers. Under Armour and long underwear."
You’ll need Layers, unless you're visiting from Michigan.
Marge Biancke, who is visiting Churchill Downs, said, “It's just sweatshirt and jacket weather. It's nice, it's nice. It's not snowing, it's not raining and the wind is not blowing. It's delightful."
As temperatures could dip into the 30's Friday night for the Ladies' Cup Classic...
It won't be chilly enough to stop race fans from trying to catch a glimpse of Zenyatta over the next two days.

She's a female favorite that's going for a 20 and 0 win against the boys.
"She had national television coverage this week. Oprah's got her, among one of the most powerful women in America, that's pretty good," John Asher, of Churchill Downs, said.
Here are several things you can't bring to Churchill Downs:
No blankets
Bottles or cans
