LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Twenty-three-year-old Ashlee Berry had just moved to Kentucky a few months ago. She was engaged to a Fort Knox soldier and set to be married in just a matter of weeks.
Friend Will Preston says Berry's fiancé just returned home three weeks ago.
"For the past month prior to her fiancé coming home she would count down the days, you could tell. Everyday her smile with get a little bigger," Preston said.
Preston saw Berry for the last time Tuesday night. Berry was a beloved server at the Troll Pub in downtown Louisville. The establishment closed its doors Wednesday and sent employees home to grieve.
The company released this statement:
"We (The Troll Pub and its employees) are deeply saddened and wounded by the loss of Ashlee. Ashlee was an extraordinary woman that positively affected everyone in which she came in contact. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ashlee's family and fiancée.
Ashlee's senseless death has been a terrible loss to her family, friends, and the Louisville community. She will be profoundly missed. The Troll Pub and the City of Louisville will not be the same without her." Ben Barker, Troll Pub General Manager said.
Preston says "she was the type of person where even if you just met her you start smiling, she was just that at upbeat."
Berry's fiancé declined to comment. "I'm sure he is distraught and very upset," Preston said. "To come home from war and lose your fiancé, I couldn't imagine anything worse."
