LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- Friends of a murder victim are speaking out about the senseless tragedy and the woman they say was a delight to work with.
26-year-old Ashley Thomas died of a gunshot wound at Esquire Alley on Saturday. On Sunday, Roy Stone, 21, was arrested in connection with her murder.
"When this happened, it affected a lot of people and nobody is never going to be the same,"
Shaniquequa Brown, a co-worker of Thomas’ said.
Thomas brought joy to everyone she worked with and her smile is being deeply missed today by her co-workers
"She was very sweet and caring and always smiling," Lauricia Parker said.
Thomas had been only working at the Family Health Center in Portland for about a year, but she made a huge impact on the people here in that time.
"She never had a bad day . She was always happy," Parker said.
Thomas was found shot to death in an apartment on Esquire Alley, off Roy Wilkins Avenue. Shots were fired into the apartment and she was hit in the head and died at the scene.
Stone was arrested in connection with her death. Co-workers said it's been difficult at work today. They said she always lifted everyone's spirits.
"It was a very senseless act of violence and she didn’t deserve that. She was not that kind of person," Parker said.
Counselors were on hand at the center Monday to help everyone deal with this tragic loss.
"That's my baby girl and it's like living a bad dream," Brown says.
The circumstances of the crime are still under investigation. Funeral arrangements are still pending. Thomas is survived by her three year old daughter Charlie who is now with family.
