LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- On Thursday, the city remembered a former director of the Kentucky Opera who passed away over the weekend.
Thomson Smillie was with the Kentucky Opera from 1981 to 1997.
A funeral mass was held at the Cathedral of the Assumption on 5th Street.
After the mass, there was a free memorial concert at the Brown Theater where the stage is named in his honor.
His family requests expressions of sympathy in the form of contributions to the Thomson Smillie Campaign for Artistic Excellence which will support the development of new works and productions.
