LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – If expanded gambling is approved in Kentucky, Churchill Downs says it’s important they own and operate any casino in Louisville.

Churchill’s senior vice president Brett Hale says if another company ran a casino in town, the racing heritage at Churchill Downs would be at risk.

The Kentucky Legislature is back in session this month and the issue of expanded gambling is expected to be a hot topic.

Governor Steve Beshear has pushed to legalize casino-style gambling in Kentucky for years.
