LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – More than 5,000 neonatal intensive care unit survivors and their families were reunited with their caregivers during a celebration at the Louisville Zoo.
This event gave families and Kosair Children’s Hospital employees a chance to bond while doctors and nurses see how much each child has progressed since leaving the hospital.
Dana Howlett-Blanford’s son recently left the NIC-U two months ago and she credits the staff with saving her son’s life.
“He had a lot going on and we're very thankful. Kosair was the best place, very very appreciative for everything that the doctors and nurses and everyone there did,” she said.
Each year, more than 1300 premature and medically fragile babies are treated at Kosair’s NIC-U.
