(WHAS11)-A Carroll County, Kentucky sheriff is in serious condition tonight at University Hospital after an accident Tuesday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police say Sheriff Ben Smith was responding to a domestic violence call, when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree, just east of downtown Carrollton, and south of the Ohio River.
