EDINBURGH, Ind. (AP) -- The commander of the Indiana National Guard's Camp Atterbury is being promoted to a national position in Washington.

Guard officials say Col. Ivan Denton is being promoted to brigadier general and will joint director of personnel for the National Guard Bureau starting Jan. 1.

Denton has been commander of the Indiana Guard's training base near Edinburgh for the past two years. His previous assignments included two deployments to Iraq as a commander of Indiana Guard units.

A promotion ceremony for Denton is planned at the Indiana War Memorial in Indianapolis next month.

Col. Richard Shatto of Columbus will replace Denton as Camp Atterbury's commander during a Dec. 17 ceremony.
