LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- For the first time since his Kentucky Derby win California Chrome hit the track Wednesday morning at Churchill Downs.

He was walked around and even got a bath afterwards. The plan is to gallop him more on Thursday.

Assistant trainer Alan Sherman said California Chrome is happy after taking a few days off and that he loves to train.

He'll ship to Pimlico and the Preakness Stakes by Monday, May 12, or Wednesday, May14.

“As long as we run our race, I think if he likes the track and runs his race he's going to be tough to beat. He loves to run,” Sherman said.

As for trainer Art Sherman, Alan Sherman's dad, he's back at home enjoying  a few days of rest. He says his dad is still excited by his first ever Kentucky Derby win.
