LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Eight pounds of marijuana has been taken off the street after a drug bust near Bullitt County.

The Bullitt County Drug Task Force arrested Joshua Ford and Lesa Nelson Sunday night.

“Eight pounds of this compressed marijuana is a large amount. You don't see pressed marijuana around here too often,” Lt. Mike Murdoch of the Bullitt County Drug Task Force said.

Overnight the Task Force and other agencies helped to nab this couple who police say was on their way back from Colorado.

Joshua Ford and Lesa Nelson are now in Metro Corrections charged with drug trafficking.

The arrest happened at the intersection of Kurtz and Normie off Blue Lick Road, close to the Bullitt County line and T.T. Knight Middle School.

“Unfortunately with Colorado and Washington legalizing marijuana this has made it to where people think they can get marijuana and bring it back here,” Lt. Murdoch said.

The eight pounds of marijuana are worth $16,000 and police say they found $1,000 in cash in the car.

The drugs were found in a speaker in the vehicle.

Neighbors were stunned to see something like this happen outside their doors.

“I’m a glad they did catch them so that was good,” one resident said.

This is the fourth big bust for Bullitt County authorities in the past few weeks.

Police busted the operator of Gilberts Pay Lake for distribution of thousands of pills and all this merchandise believed to be stolen.

Then the owner of a tattoo parlor was arrested and charged in connection with drug trafficking.

Just last Thursday, a marijuana grow operation was discovered in a Mount Washington man's home.

Police say some of these cases are connected and dozens more arrests are expected.
