LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A community program that has planted more than 1,000 trees in Louisville has received 25,000 for new trees in west Louisville.

Louisville Brightside has partnered with Brown-Forman to plant trees around the city since 2001.

The liquor giant recently donated the money for the new plantings near its campus around the Russell neighborhood and the area around the African American Heritage Foundation Center.

The program also attempts to educate about the value of trees by placing door hanger at nearby homes with tips on how to care for the trees.
