LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville Metro Police are asking for your help in solving the murder of a woman found dead on Louisville's south side Saturday morning.
Police say the body of an white female, in her 50's, was discovered by a resident in the 1200 block of Phyllis Ave., not far from Churchill Downs.
The coroner later identified the woman as 53-year-old Angela Pilkerton of Louisville. There is no cause of death yet, but foul play is suspected.
The family has been notified but no funeral arrangements have been made at this time.
Police say her killer remains at large, in a community still in shock.
"When a neighbor walks out and finds someone dead in the alley by their garbage can, it's kind of scary," Tim Miller, a neighbor said.
It's a scene Danielle Terry says she's only seen on television, until Saturday morning, when it became her reality.
"I see things like this that happened on the news but I never thought it would be something that happened so close to home and be at my house," Terry said.
Terry says she was taking the trash out around 9:45 a.m. when she discovered the body of a woman she didn't recognize.
"It kind of took me by surprise - especially me being home with my two little girls," Terry said.
Terry said she didn't look twice at the woman's body. She ran inside and called police.
"I've lived here before. It's a quiet neighborhood. Nothing ever really happens. So this did take me by surprise when I found someone in my backyard," Terry said.
Terry moved to the neighborhood just three weeks ago. But her neighbors who've lived on this street for decades say they've never witnessed a crime like this.
"I hope they find the person responsible, who did this to her. It's sad," Miller said.
No suspects have been identified and anyone with information is asked to call the Anonymous Tip Line at 574-LMPD.
Note: The video version incorrectly identifies "Danielle Terry" as "Michelle Terry."
