LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Black Friday was a successful day of adoptions for the Kentucky Humane Society.

Typically, dark-colored pets spend about twice as long in shelters as light-colored pets in what is commonly referred to as  "Black Dog/Cat Syndrome."

In order to give black and mostly black-colored cats and dogs the opportunity to find loving homes faster, the Kentucky Humane Society celebrated "Black Friday" by waiving adoption fees for cats and dogs four months an older.

By the end of the day's event, 75 dogs and cats found loving homes.

To put that number in perspective, the Kentucky Humane Society sees about one hundred adoptions during a typical week.
