MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) -- A Muncie man has died after riding his bicycle into the path of an oncoming train.
Delaware County Coroner Scott Hahn told The Star Press that 47-year-old Phillip Dwain Howell was pronounced dead of blunt force injuries minutes after midnight Sunday morning.
Hahn says Howell was crossing railroad tracks on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when he was struck by the train. He says video from the train and eyewitness accounts indicate Howell was wearing earphones and had gone around the crossing arm blocking the tracks as the train approached. Warning lights were working at the time.
