LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – One of Louisville’s historic gems celebrated a milestone on Sunday.
The Belle of Louisville turned 99-years-old outlasting many boats of the same caliber.
The great steamboat is the last authentic one in operation in the United States with pure steam-powered, paddlewheel propelled and without modern navigation equipment.
For some, a ride on the Belle is like a step back in time and people are still able to enjoy that today.
To celebrate the upcoming 100th birthday of the Belle, she along with 8 of her sister riverboats will line the Ohio River for the Centennial Festival of Riverboats next October.
The festival will be 6-days of art, bourbon, music and culture at Waterfront Park.
