(WHAS11)-The bell that once rang from the top of the Jefferson county Indiana courthouse will not be returned to the rebuilt bell tower.
The Madison Indiana courthouse burnt down last May.
The County Commissioner Julie Berry says the bell was charred and could be cracked and unsafe.
The county will install speakers at the top of the tower that will play the same key as the bell instead.
Plans are in the works to display it on the courthouse grounds.
A worker unintentionally started the fire while working on the roof.
