BARDSTOWN, Ky. -- A Bardstown pastor has resigned and is now he is under investigation.
Church workers became alarmed when the church expenses didn't add up and now police are investigating what he allegedly bought with the money.
On Bardstown Baptist Church's website, Pastor Dylan Mays announced that he resigned to pursue other options, but it's what led to that resignation that has the police now investigating. When WHAS11 went to his house Thursday, he made clear he did not want to talk.
The attorney for Bardstown Baptist Church, Jason Floyd, says they are looking into allegations Mays could have used church money for personal purchases such as flat screen televisions, sporting equipment and weapons.
"The one that has been circulated in particular is guns and I know that police are investigating over that," said Floyd.
Mays has been pastor of the church for the past eight years and has now been interviewed by police.
The church has been going through tough financial times. When they took a closer look at their expenses, they noticed something was wrong.
Floyd said that a substantial amount of money is missing given the church only has 150 members and it allegedly had been happening over a number of years.
"How something like that goes for that long without being noticed and that's obviously one of the issues as well, " Floyd said.
