LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- It's graduation season and WHAS11 is saying "hats off" to the folks at Big Brothers Big Sisters who are moving on to bigger things.

At its graduation ceremony, the organization raised $5,000 and also gave WHAS11 a big honor.

On the stage, Gary Roedemeier and Doug Proffitt were honored for their 25 years of reporting on the matches created by BBBS.  The matches occur by putting young folks in our community with adults who serve as mentors until they are eighteen years old.

Gary started our stories in 1989 and Doug continued this great tradition five years ago when Gary retired.

VJ Hudson is graduating from Male High School and the Big Brothers program after being matched for seven years with David Moser. VJ would like to the play for the golf team at UK.

We say thanks, but many more great matches are still to come.

More than 400 local youngsters and teenagers are on the Kentuckiana waiting list. Most of them are young boys.

If you would like to volunteer, give them a call in their Gardiner Lane offices at 877-588-2300.
