LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A decision has been made regarding Atherton High School’s non-discrimination policy on gender identity.

During a meeting Tuesday afternoon, the Site-Based Decision Making council sided with principal Thomas Aberli to allow a transgender student, who is male but identifies as a female, to use the girl’s restroom and locker rooms.

The issue came to light last month after some parents said there have been problems at the school resulting from the policy.

One father spoke at the hearing about a complaint he filed with the school.

Aberli would not comment on the complaint.

The issue is up for a final reading and discussion on Thursday.
