LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Jefferson County was under an air-quality alert Sunday because of the fires in and around Fort Knox.  Winds have carried soot and ash to our area making it hard for some people to breathe.  It’s a smell that's invaded parts of Louisville.  It’s a smell like a camp fire caused by the fires earlier this week at Fort Knox and a fire that broke out near there Saturday night in Hardin County.
Ash and soot have now made their way to Louisville.  While it’s definitely annoying, it is also affecting people's health and that's why Jefferson County was under an air-quality alert Sunday.   Tiffany McCollum has asthma and she says the smoke isn't helping.
Now it’s a waiting game to see when the smoke and haze will let up.  The only cure to get rid of the smoky smell in the air is wind and rain.
