LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – In an effort to encourage minority students to pursue higher education, a statewide effort was held raise awareness.

Representatives from community and technical colleges visited churches across the area for Super Sunday, an initiative aimed to get African-American students about continuing their education.

Lisa Brosky, vice president of Jefferson Community and Technical College says college graduation rates are low among African-Americans in Kentucky.

She hopes that providing access to information during Sunday’s event inspired some young people to consider college.

“It makes college less intimidating, more important and the students have support of their entire church when they go through college so it’s really a terrific partnership,” Brosky said.

Schools who took part in Super Sunday visited a variety of churches including St. Stephen and First Gethsemane Baptist Church.
