OLDHAM CO., Ky. (WHAS11)-- An accident on I-71 southbound left one dead and temporarily shut down the highway.
Authorities and a medical helicopter responded to an accident on July 24. A female died in the crash, and four others were taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries remains unknown.
In a press release, police said the accident happened just after 9 p.m. between a passenger vehicle and a semi. Police said that the van, which had a Florida license plate, rammed into the back of the semi.
Officers shut down a stretch of the highway near the accident and diverted traffic at mile exit ramp 28, but it has since been reopened.
The accident happened near the 14 mile marker in Oldham County near the Crestwood-Pewee Valley exit.
